True and eternal Leader,

You pioneer into the wild, 

blazing trails and clearing paths,

preparing places for us to place our feet 

so that they might land softly and securely,

avoiding traps and holes

that would leave us wounded.

We follow with care

as you take us through unsteady terrain,

trusting that you are the perfect field guide,

already familiar

with every rock, road, and river

that lies ahead.

We pray today for humility,

that we would never abandon

our dependence

on your direction,

and we would never believe 

that we could rely on our own discretion. 

Let us never blaze the trail ahead of you,

Hoping or believing

that you should catch up to us,

As we pursue a land

That we have made up in our own minds.

And let us never fall so far behind You,

and assume

that we will just catch up to you later,

While we hang out here

for a little while longer.

You are the Leader and the Master

We have pledged to follow,

Even when we don’t know what that entails,

or even what it means.

But you see what we do not.

So help us to always flow closely…

So close even

That we find ourselves covered in your dust.
